CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington College men’s soccer head coach Roy Dunshee has named three captains for the 2018 season. The trio are senior back Kyle Kirwan (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair), senior keeper Josh Samuels (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) and junior back Sean Garin (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson). Samuels is serving as a captain for the second straight season, while Kirwin and Garin are serving as captains of Shoremen Soccer for the first time.
Kirwan, who was named the squad’s Most Improved Player in 2017, played in a career-best 11 matches and earned his first career start at McDaniel last season. He helped the Shoremen post three shutouts of their five shutouts last fall, including a season-ending 2-0 blanking at Muhlenberg last October. He has played in 14 contests in his career for Washington.
Samuels, who was an All-Centennial Conference second team selection as a sophomore, made 27 saves, totaled a .711 save percentage and had a 1.52 goals against average in eight contests last season, all eight of which were starts. In three seasons with the Shoremen, he has six shutouts, 115 saves, a 1.05 goals against average and a .742 save percentage.
Garin became a fixture in the back last season for the Shoremen as he started all 17 matches last fall, helping the team post five blankings. He tallied his first career assists and point in a 4-1 win at Wesley last September. In 22 all-time contests, he has 17 starts to his credit.
The Shoremen will open up their 2018 season this Friday when they host Stevenson at 4:00 p.m.
