Earlier this summer the Kent County Public Schools announced that they would be looking to raise $10,000 to provide every student, and their teachers, in grades 8 through 12 a copy Wil Haygood’s new book Tigerland: 1968-1969: A City Divided, A Nation Torn Apart, and a Magical Season of Healing.
At the August 13, 2018 meeting of the Board of Education, the Friends of the Kent County Library presented a check to KCPS for $2500, a quarter of the money needed.

Tigerland: 1968-1969: A City Divided, A Nation Torn Apart, and a Magical Season of Healing, tells the story of the achievements of the Tigers, a basketball and baseball team at Columbus, Ohio’s inner-city East High School in 1968 and 1969. Haygood finished the book as a writing fellow at Washington College. The book will be released on September 15, 2018. Haygood, will be returning to Kent County to participate in Meet the Author events at the Kent County middle and high school.
