CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington College volleyball head coach Jamie Leventry has named two captains for the 2018 season. Seniors outside hitter Kaitlyn Marino (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) and junior right-side hitter/defensive specialist Cassie Kowalski (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy) will serve as captains for the Shorewomen this year. The duo are serving as captains for the first time.
Marino, a two-time All-Centennial Conference pick after earning honorable mention status in 2017 following a second team selection two years ago, led the team in kills (188), kills per set (2.76) and points per set (3.5). Last fall in the conference, she ranked seventh in points per set and 10th in service aces per set (0.46). In her three seasons with the Shorewomen, she has 682 career kills, 435 digs, 99 blocks and 49 service aces as has been named the Most Valuable Player each of the last two years.
Kowalski, who played in all 28 contests in 2017, was second on the team in aces per set (0.44), third on team in aces (39), digs (215) and assists (30), fourth in digs per set (2.42) and kills per set (1.58) and fifth with 141 kills. She had 11 matches of double digit digs, including a career-high 21 versus Elizabethtown, and five contests of double figure kills. In her two years with Washington, she has 378 kills, 341 digs, 73 aces and 36 blocks.
The Shorewomen open their 2018 season on Friday when they travel to the DeSales Invitational where they will play Baruch at 5:00 p.m. and Colby-Sawyer at 7:00 p.m.
