Easton, Md. – March 4, 2020)
University of Maryland Shore Regional Health recognized February as American Heart Month, with special events and awareness activities throughout the five-county region.
The message was simple: Taking care of your heart is important. It is important to know your cardiovascular risk, as well. UM Shore Medical Group-Cardiology providers offer preventive testing and non-invasive treatment to keep your heart healthy and strong, and UM Shore Regional Health’s interventional cardiologists are skilled in more complex cardiovascular procedures. Cardiologists see patients in Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties.
Teams from UM Shore Medical Centers at Chestertown, Dorchester and Easton; the UM Shore Emergency Center at Queenstown; UM Shore Medical Pavilions at Denton, Easton and Queenstown; the Centers for Cardiopulmonary Fitness and Wellness at Chestertown, Dorchester and Easton; and the Diagnostic and Imaging Center at Easton gathered in locations throughout the five-county region on National Wear Red Day, Friday, Feb. 7, to show solidarity and bring recognition to the importance of heart health for women and men.
Although the Food Services departments at UM Shore Medical Centers at Chestertown, Dorchester and Easton offer heart-healthy meal options every day for patients, staff and visitors, February saw the addition of some special heart-healthy options added to the menus, like Asian salmon salad, fish tacos, grilled chicken salad, vegetable “fried” brown rice, Greek salad wraps, sesame shrimp tacos, turkey kale soup, maple Dijon salmon, and turkey and vegetarian chili.
During Cardiac Rehab Week, February 9 to 15, 2020 the Center for Cardiopulmonary Fitness and Wellness at UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown hosted several free events, open to patients, staff and the public. Every Wednesday through February, the Cardiac Rehab staff offered free, drop-in blood pressure screenings. The Center also offered a free Friends and Family CPR course and a free discussion about the risk factors for a heart attack and heart disease, and the heart healthy changes you can make to lead a healthier life.
Free blood pressure screenings are always available throughout the year at the UM Shore Medical Center at Dorchester, every Tuesday and Friday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the main lobby, 300 Byrn Street, Cambridge. At the Diagnostic and Imaging Center at Easton, 10 Martin Court, free blood pressure screenings are offered every Tuesday and Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to noon.
