The Town of Rock Hall will flush fire hydrants at night throughout the town beginning Monday, April 20th , from 8p.m. to 5a.m. this work will continue thereafter for approximately 2 weeks. This work is necessary to ensure the proper operation of the hydrants and to draw water through the water mains at a faster than normal rate to remove any iron sediment in the pipes. During the flushing operations, you may experience fluctuations in pressure and/or discolored water. The condition is temporary and does not pose a health hazard. Please run your cold water, hot water, washing machine and dish washer before using. During periods of discoloration postpone washing clothes and limit your use of hot water until the cold water clears.
Commonly asked question:
Why does the water system need to be routinely flushed?
Answer:
The water distribution system is a complex network of pipes and storage reservoirs where sediment or deposits may naturally accumulate over time. If not removed, there materials may cause water quality deterioration, taste and odor problems, or discoloration of the water. This can result in degraded water quality.
