FarmersWagon.org Joins The Feed The Elderly Initiative As The Program Coordinator During Gov. Hogan’s Maryland Strong: Roadmap to Recovery

WORTON, MD– The volunteer-based online marketplace FarmersWagon.org has partnered with the Social Action Committee for Racial Justice (“SACRJ”) and the Kent County Local Management Board to provide food delivery to senior residents as part of the Feed the Children and Elderly Initiative which started in March 2020. The Social Action Committee for Racial Justice has worked with dozens of organizations and over 150 volunteers for more than 5,000 hours to distribute over 18,500 bags of groceries and meals. Recently, SACRJ has been working with the Kent County Local Management Board to develop a plan to sustain the Feed the Children and Elderly Initiative as Maryland Governor Larry Hogan continues to deploy his Maryland Strong:Roadmap to Recovery. Kent County Public Schools will assume responsibility for providing meals to Kent County Public School Students and FarmersWagon.org will oversee the sourcing and delivery of groceries to senior residents in Kent County.

FarmersWagon.org will add the more than 200 households currently served by the Feed the Elderly Initiative to its delivery queue starting Monday, June 1, 2020. Senior deliveries will be once a week and distributed along with food bundles currently being provided by FarmersWagon.org’s Care Package Program. FarmersWagon.org plans to work with many of the local food producers currently featured on its site (www.farmerswagon.org) to source items for the Feed the Elderly Initiative. Weekly Thursday deliveries will start on June 4, 2020.

FarmersWagon.org encourages senior residents or anyone with an elderly family member or loved one to email support@farmerswagon.org or call (443)333-9336 for more information.

FarmersWagon.org is an online farm-to-door market that offers a fast and easy way to have products from local food producers delivered directly to your door. The volunteer-based project started following the initial closure of the Chestertown Farmers Market by Mayor Chris Cerino and the Town Council in March 2020. The project’s mission is to establish a supply-chain between local food producers and their neighbors.
