The Mayor and Council of Rock Hall held a special conference call meeting today at noon to consider options for opening or closing Ferry Park Beach.
After much discussion, it was decided that the beach should remain close. This status will be reconsidered weekly until such time that the Council feels it is safe to open it.
The small size of the beach and its big attraction raised concerns about the Town’s ability to adequately enforce social distancing and group size restrictions. In addition, the bay’s water quality will not be tested by the State of Maryland Health Department until May 18th, and signage on the rules that will be in place when the beach is opened needs to be arranged and put in place.
While many of you may support this decision, many of you may not. With the nice weather expected this weekend and the significant number of expected visitors in the town, it was felt that this was in the best interest of the health and safety of community – residents and visitors alike.
The next meeting to consider opening the beach is tentatively planned for Thursday, May 21st. A public notice will be posted as to time and format and instruction for public observation at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting.
Your continued patience is very much appreciated.
In the meantime, please be personally responsible for protecting yourself – wear a face mask when inside public places, social distance yourself 6 feet from others, wash your hands frequently and stay safe at home, especially if you are elderly or have health concerns.
These are contagious times. This virus is selectively deadly. Please choose to be safe.
“Hurricane COVID-19” WILL pass!
God Bless Everyone.
