CHESTERTOWN, MD – Washington College head men’s basketball coach Aaron Goodman announced today that his team has selected four captains for the 2020-2021 campaign. Junior forward Daniel Brown (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch), junior guard/forward Barry McCormick (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding), senior guard Cole Storm (Oreland, Pa./Germantown Academy) and junior Tray Wright (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul School for Boys) will pilot the Shoremen on a daily basis.
“Daniel, Barry, Cole, and Tray are terrific examples of Shoremen Basketball on the court, in the classroom, and in the community,” stated Goodman. “They each bring their own uniqueness to our brotherhood and family, which is why our team’s culture is so special.”
Brown led the team in both scoring at 11.9 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game as he played in 24 games, starting 23 times, while finishing second in steals per game at 1.1. He also finished fifth in offensive rebounds (46), seventh in rebounds per game and minutes per game (31.3) and eighth in total boards (146) and made field goals (119). He was sixth in the conference in conference-only games in offensive rebounds (32), ninth in field goals made (90) and minutes per game (31.7).
McCormack appeared in just nine games after suffering a season-ending injury last winter. He shot 47.7 percent from the field and 36.8 from behind the arc while averaging 6.4 points per game. Storm, who has made 72 career appearances, played in 22 games and averaged 8.8 minutes per contest last season.
Wright started 15 contests and averaged 26.5 minutes per game as a sophomore. He averaged 9.8 points per game and shot 43 percent from the floor. The guard reached double-digits in scoring in 10 contests and scored a season-high 20 points (9-of-12 fga) versus Muhlenberg on December 4. Wright has made 42 career starts and has appeared in 51 games.
“They are ready to carry this team and lead it to new heights,” Goodman added. “We are all experiencing very challenging times, and there is opportunity to showcase gratitude and love for each other and for each day we are alive, there is opportunity to grow personally, and there is opportunity to carry a positive attitude towards being the best person you can be. Daniel, Barry, Cole, and Tray embody these attributes, our team’s core values, and I’m happy for each of them that their teammates believe in them as well, by voting them into this important role.”
The Shoremen finished 10-16 last season and were 8-10 in the Centennial Conference. The squad qualified for the conference tournament for the second straight season and were the No. 5 seed before falling to Muhlenberg in Allentown.
