Yesterday at approximately 9:25 pm, officers received a call that a father and son were missing after taking a boat trip and cruising in the Chester River.
According to a family member, the father and son left a float plan and were expected to return home around 8 pm. Searchers worked by boat and helicopter throughout the night. Around 6 am, our aviation unit, Natural 1, located the young boy still in the boat and the father close by on land. According to the father, the two boaters ran out of gas and made it to a nearby shoreline. The father was unable to call for help because he couldn’t get a cell phone signal. Both father and son were tired but unharmed.
A big thanks to all of the agencies who assisted in this search: the United States Coast Guard, Maryland State Police, Kent and Queen Anne’s County Fire Departments, and the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.
