Betterton resident John Mosko heard something on April 26, 2012 that no parent wants to hear. His son, Lt Christopher Mosko, a member of the Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, along with two other members of the unit and the unit’s naval bomb dog was killed in Afghanistan when they were hit by an IED. Prior to the Betterton’s Sons of the American meeting on Friday October 1, 2021 he spoke about this son and his life since.
John became actively involved with the Travis Manion Foundation, where he began giving talks to high school students, very much similar to the talk he gave before the SAL meeting.
Betterton has become John and his wife Cayle’s Happy Place. He talked about how to take grief and make it positive. To do so is through Faith, Family and Friends. Faith gives you hope with Family and Friends giving you support to move forward.
He believe that just remembering the fallen is not enough. We should honor them through our deeds, actions and giving back to the community.
