Kylee Smith – Shorewoman of the Week
Freshman women’s swimmer Kylee Smith (Avon, Colo./Vail Ski and Snowboard Academy) is this week’s Shorewoman of the Week. She entered the progam’s all-time top 10 in the 200 butterfly, jumped up in the Shorewomen’s top 10 in the 100 butterfly and was part of four second place finishes and in helping WC win the TYR Yellow Jacket Invitational this past weekend in Virginia hosted by Randolph-Macon.
Smith became the Shorewomen’s fifth-fastest swimmer all-time in the 200 butterfly (2:11.58) and the team’s sixth-fastest swimmer ever in the 100 butterfly (59.47), improving her spot by two places. In addition to her second place finishes in the 100 and 200 butterfly events, the freshman was also part of two second place relay teams, the 400 freestyle relay (3:37.83) and the 800 freestyle relay (7:58.20).
Washington won the invite with 1424.5 points, 44 points better than host Randolph-Macon.
This is Smith’s first career Shorewoman of the Week honor
Zach Affeldt – Shoreman of the Week
Freshman men’s swimmer Zach Affeldt (Savage, Minn./Burnsville) is this week’s Shoreman of the Week. Affeldt won two events and improved his spot in the program’s top 10 in three different events at the TYR Yellow Jacket Invitational this weekend in Virginia hosted by Randolph-Macon.
On Friday, he won the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:54.05 and became the third-fastest time in school history in the event. On Saturday, he captured the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:11.30 to become the fifth-fastest swimmer in Shoremen history and his 100 breaststroke time of 58.05, which he swam as an exhbition, places him second all-time at WC.
This is Affeldt’s first career Shoreman of the Week honor.
