ROCK HALL — The Kent County Board of Education recognized Elizabeth Proffitt, parent coordinator for the school system’s Family Support Resource Center, with this month’s Golden Anchor Award.
The Golden Anchor Award is given to staff members or groups of employees who exemplify the mission and core values of Kent County Public Schools.
“Kent County Public Schools is an anchor organization that creates an environment of academic excellence through a collaborative, equitable and rigorous learning community,” the mission statement reads.
Proffitt was honored at the Board of Education meeting held Monday, July 18. Dr. Wendy Keen, supervisor of special education, made the nomination.
“This was Beth’s first full year as our parent coordinator,” Dr. Keen said. “Her guidance to parents has been outstanding — coordinating parent meetings and arranging public outreach events for our Family Support Resource Center and our Infants and Toddlers Program.”
Dr. Keen said Proffitt has helped parents understand their rights and coached them on how to actively participate in important meetings with special education teachers and administrators.
“Beth’s enthusiasm is contagious and she’s always willing to jump in and help, including substituting when we needed her,” Dr. Keen said. “Beth has been an outstanding member to our team and I look forward to working with her for many more years.”
