Chestertown, MD — November 16, 2022 —The Youth Organizing & Uniting to Re-Power (Y.O.U.R.) Kent County Leadership Academy gives Kent County High School (KCHS) students the opportunity to earn a $100 stipend and service learning hours, while they direct the county’s future reinvestments and develop valuable skills in the process. The program will kick off December 5th – 9th with a week-long intensive, held everyday, during all three lunches, in KCHS Room 312, and with an afterschool session Thursday, December 8th from 2:30p to 4:30p (also in Room 312).
Y.O.U.R. Kent County is a 15-session, learn-by-doing academy that engages KCHS students with the purpose of designing a youth-led community project that addresses students’ mental strength and wellness needs and the needs of their peers.
Young people will work with certified workshop facilitators from Findlay House Global—a Community Development firm—who will teach students research and community organizing skills, and offer guidance as students develop a project concept.
The youth will present their project concept to the Kent County Community at the Academy Graduation, and the Kent County Local Management Board will provide available funding to implement the project in FY2024.
The youth leadership Academy program puts young people in the driver’s seat of the county’s youth reinvestment plans, providing students with the guidance and monetary resources needed to make a tangible impact.
