A Night of Gospel Music with SOMBARKIN’
Saturday 11/26 @ 8 pm
SOMBARKIN’ is a trio of vocalists whose sound is best described as Gospel. The group uses the impressive voices of all three of its members — Karen Somerville, Lester Barrett, Jr. and Jerome McKinney – with their carefully rehearsed dynamics and timing, and precision harmonies to deliver an explosive performance of Negro spirituals, map songs, folk, gospel, and contemporary selections. Their technique is reminiscent of the ‘ole time religion’ and ‘campground’ style, punctuated with occasional and surprising jazz licks and blues bends. Playing with SOMBARKIN’ will be Gerry Werner on piano, Charlie Werner on guitar, and Ray Anthony on drums.

Joe Holt Presents “Smooth Soul” with Vaughn Bratcher
Friday 12/2 @ 8:00 pm
For his final “First Friday” program of 2022, Joe Holt presents a program titled Vaughn Bratcher and Friends – “Smooth Soul”. Joe and Vaughn will be joined by other members of the Vaughn Bratcher Project including Tracey Cutler on sax and Dave Gladding on drums.
The smooth sounds of a Vaughn Bratcher performance are geared for listening entertainment although the audience is often moved to dance. The song list for one of his performances covers tunes such as “Wine Light” by Grover Washington, instrumental R &B “Can’t Hide Love” by Earth Wind & Fire, and “What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye, along with many more classic soul favorites.
Vaughn Bratcher put down his cornet and picked up his first Electric Bass Guitar at the age of 13. He has since performed with numerous groups, as well as recorded with several different artists, including Al Green, Cyrus Chestnut, Gary Thomas, Betty Wright, Steve Carrington, and guitarist Paul Bollenback.
