ROCK HALL — One of the school system’s lead custodians, who is always ready to pitch in and help with a smile for staff and students, was honored this month by the Kent County Board of Education.
At a board meeting held Wednesday, April 5, 2023 Rock Hall Elementary School’s Antone Black Jr. received the Golden Anchor Award.
The Golden Anchor Award is presented each month to staff members or groups of employees who exemplify the mission and core values of Kent County Public Schools.
“Kent County Public Schools is an anchor organization that creates an environment of academic excellence through a collaborative, equitable and rigorous learning community,” the mission statement reads.
Nominations may be submitted by Kent County Public Schools staff members, parents and students.
Kent County Public Schools Supervisor of Human Resources Dan Hushion read the letter nominating Black for this month’s award, saying he is “a great role model for all of our students,” showing kindness and patience.
Hushion said Black is “ready any minute” to move items or clean up a spill — all without complaint.
“Mr. Tony always has a smile for staff and students,” Hushion read from the letter. “He interacts well with students, always offering an encouraging word to them.”
