Kent Attainable Housing, Inc. (KAH) is pleased to announce the acceptance of a $178,750 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Grant from the Town of Chestertown. KAH will use these funds to support its efforts to increase affordable homeownership opportunities and address housing insecurity for low-to-moderate-income families who live or work in Chestertown.
“KAH is incredibly grateful to the Chestertown Mayor and Town Council for giving us the opportunity to grow our impact and support the economic vitality of this community. Affordable housing is key to Chesterotwn’s future. Breaking down barriers to access homeownership will allow local families to build wealth and financial resiliency. The broader Chestertown community will also have the opportunity to garner greater economic stability and investment in development and community revitalization.” said Taylor Frey, President of Kent Attainable Housing’s Board.
Chestertown ARPA funds were awarded to several local organizations dedicated to supporting economic growth and recovery in Chestertown in alignment with Federal legislation. KAH will use these funds to support a down-payment and closing cost assistance, a savings matching program for families purchasing a home with KAH, and a community revitalization initiative KAH plans to launch in the second half of 2023.
KAH has built or renovated three homes with five homes currently in progress in Kent County. The organization has received more than 200 inquiries about homeownership opportunities since the beginning of 2023. “The interest in our homeownership in Chestertown is significant, and with all the challenges low-income families in our community face along with the rise in interest rates, these funds could make a huge difference in our ability to get more families ready for homeownership,” said Terwana Brown, Kent Attainable Housing’s Program Director.
