Kent County Middle School teacher Kaitlyn Wright is among seven finalists announced for the Maryland Teacher of the Year.

Wright, who teaches English and leads the drama program at the middle school, was named Kent County Public Schools Teacher of the Year last spring.

In that time, she and a cohort of Teachers of the Year from throughout the state have been competing for Maryland’s top honor.
“We are so proud of Ms. Wright and we’re excited to cheer her on in this final phase of the process,” said Dr. Mary Boswell-McComas, superintendent of Kent County Public Schools.

As stated in the announcement letter from the Maryland State Department of Education, being named a finalist reflects Wright’s outstanding talents, contributions to the teaching profession and many accomplishments.

Wright will go through an interview process with a panel of state judges this month. The next Maryland Teacher of the Year will be announced in October.
