Kent County Public Schools’ food service staff was honored with this month’s Golden Anchor Award for the team’s hard work and dedication.

The cafeteria workers and Food Service Support Supervisor Angela Knoll received their awards from the Kent County Board of Education Monday night, October 14, 2024.

The Golden Anchor Award is presented each month to staff members or groups of employees who exemplify the mission and core values of Kent County Public Schools.

“Kent County Public Schools is an anchor organization that creates an environment of academic excellence through a collaborative, equitable and rigorous learning community,” the mission statement reads.

Nominations may be submitted by Kent County Public Schools staff members, parents and students.

Dan Hushion, supervisor of human resources, was joined by Alleesa Stewart, supervisor of finance, at the Oct. 14 meeting to present the cafeteria staff with their award.

Hushion said Knoll and the entire food service staff “without a doubt go above and beyond each and every day during the school year as well as the summertime to ensure that our students in our school system are fed.”

Knoll completely revamped the online school menus this year. The new system lists nutritional information about meals and potential food allergens.

Kent County Public Schools’ kitchens did not close over the summer. Members of the cafeteria staff prepared breakfasts and lunches for anyone 18 and younger over the summer.

Knoll shared this month’s Golden Anchor award with Michelle Atkinson, Dawn Bowers, Ellen Bryden, Christine Cox, Lisa Crabtree, Heather Duncan, Tambra Ford, Morgan Glenn, Faith Heinefield, Roxanne Hynson, Amanda Jackson, Linda Kerl, Jeanne Macchione, Mary Macchione, Toye Matthews, Helen Mercer, Terry Nelson, Misako Paris, Kathy Smith, Doreen Walker and Nancy Wessell.

“Thank you all so much for all you do for Kent County Public Schools,” Stewart told the team.
