Joy Sanders – Shorewoman of the Week
Junior women’s basketball player Joy Sanders (Baltimore, Md./Cristo Rey Jesuit) is this week’s Shorewoman of the Week. Sanders scored a career-high 16 points, including the game-tying layup late in the first overtime period in a 71-66 double overtime win over McDaniel on Wednesday night.
Trailing 61-59 with just under seven seconds, Sanders intentionally missed the second free throw, grabbed the rebound and then tied the contest at 61-61 on a lay-in to highlight her 16-point and seven-rebound performance. The Shorewomen would outscore McDaniel in the second extra session, 10-5, to come away with the five-point win. On Saturday against Gettysburg, Sanders netted eight points and pulled down eight boards. In two games this past week, she averaged 12 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
This is Sanders’ first career Shorewoman of the Week honor.
