SALISBURY, MD
A team of three Kent County High School students tied for third place in a computer programming competition last month at Salisbury University.
The Kent County High School team of Ben Loller, Ben Hinton and Lynden Saunders walked away with third place at the Eastern Shore High School Computer Programming Competition.
Kent County Public Schools Supervisor of Information Technology William Poore coached the team.
This annual programming competition is hosted by the Salisbury University computer science department. There are team and individual competition rounds.
“The goal of the Annual Eastern Shore High School Computer Programming Competition is to promote and support computer programming in the secondary education community of the Lower- and Mid-Eastern Shore counties of Delmarva,” the Salisbury University website states.
Dr. Karen Couch, superintendent of Kent County Public Schools, commended the team of Loller, Hinton and Saunders and their coach.
“They did very well,” Dr. Couch said. “We were probably the smallest school that was competing.”
Kent County High School was one of the seven teams to participate in this year’s contest. The teams third-place tie was with James M. Bennett High School in Salisbury.
