Betterton Receives 2 Grants Worth over 1 Million Dollars

The Mayor and Council are pleased to announce that Betterton has received 2 grants totaling close to $1.3 million dollars:

$800,000 was awarded as a Community Development Block Grant for improvements on Wheeler Avenue. This project will include a new road, sidewalk, stormwater management, and water and sewer hook-ups. The project will utilize green infrastructure including permeable pavers, bio-retention areas, and additional landscaping. The total cost of the project is $1.1 million and the town has applied to other grant sources for the balance of the project costs.

$482,000 was awarded as a FEMA Grant for stabilization of the bank on Bayside Blvd. This project will include adding rip-rap and wall to the shoreline, as well as grading the steep bank and adding landscaping to stabilize the bank. This project requires some matching funds from the property owners on Bayside Blvd. The town is also applying for additional grant funding to cover the stormwater and landscaping plan for Bayside.

Betterton continues to apply for additional grant opportunities and looks forward to breaking ground on these projects. We appreciate your support as we work to move Betterton forward!
