Support Our Schools (SOS) Initiative Announces Third Annual “Random Acts of Kindness” Campaign for Kent County Public Schools

The members of the Support Our Schools (SOS) initiative are pleased to announce the third annual Random Acts of Kindness campaign for Kent County Public Schools. This year, the group set a fundraising goal of $5,000 to support the needs of Kent County’s students and schools.

SOS has raised over $9,000 in its first two years that was divided between all local public schools. School staff are faced with tough decisions about how to cover the cost of school lunches, field trips, and other school activities for students that do not qualify for government subsidies, but still struggle financially. The Random Acts of Kindness campaign aims to ensure no child misses out due to their family or financial situation. Funds are disbursed at the discretion of each school’s administration based on that school’s needs.

The campaign will kick off on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2019. It was inspired by “Random Acts of Kindness Day” which is February 17 each year. New this year, in addition to accepting cash donations, supporters can purchase “I Love KCPS” gear. $5 from each sale will be added to the campaign. The Random Acts of Kindness campaign and shop will close on March 14. SOS encourages the community to find ways during campaign to participate by committing random acts of kindness. Need ideas? Suggestions of ways to participate can be found on the SOS website.

The Support Our Schools (SOS) Initiative is a grassroots advocacy effort devoted to increasing awareness of and support for the needs, challenges, and untapped potential of our public school system—both for the sake of the current student population and for its opportunity to serve as a catalyst for economic development.
